YouStock vs self-storage: why we work out better for large volumes
Storing the contents of a whole home is nothing like storing a few boxes. The logistics get complicated, the costs stack up and the physical side becomes a genuine undertaking. Hiring a Luton van, making trip after trip, risking damage to bulky furniture, giving up a fortnight of weekends. Traditional self-storage runs out of road fairly quickly at this size. Our all-inclusive rate removes all of it: one price, one service, nothing added afterwards.
| Self-storage | YouStock | |

Large storage units: what people use them for
Between two homes
You need to be out of your current place but the next one is not ready. Chains slip, completion dates move, tenancies end before the new one starts. Weeks or months can pass. We collect your belongings, keep them for as long as it takes and deliver them to the new address, so you are not paying two rents or calling in favours.
Building work and renovation
Renovating around your furniture slows everything down: dust, damage, and no room for anyone to work. Clearing the house entirely gives the trades a free run and gets the job done faster. Your belongings stay protected throughout, and we deliver them back into the finished house.
Relocating or working abroad
Taking a posting overseas for a few months or a few years, without selling your furniture or paying rent on an empty property at home? Long-term storage keeps everything safe for the duration, at rates that come down the longer you store.
Separation and divorce
A separation usually means reorganising a home at speed. One of you moving out, a property that has to be cleared before it goes on the market, furniture to be divided. Storage gives you a neutral place to put things while the rest gets sorted.
Probate and clearing a house after a bereavement
A property often has to be emptied long before probate is granted and long before the family has had time to go through anything. We take the contents into storage with no deadline attached, and each beneficiary can have their share delivered once everything is agreed.
Business stock and company archives
Businesses, retailers and professional practices frequently run out of room for statutory records, seasonal stock, event equipment or older kit. Storage sized to your volumes, with quick access on request.

Why choose YouStock to store everything you own?
The more you store, the better the rate per square foot. We charge on the space actually occupied rather than rounding you up to the next unit size, which is what self-storage does. For large volumes and long stays, our rates come down and the monthly cost drops with them.
Moving the contents of a whole house takes proper kit. Our teams arrive with large vans and everything the job needs: sack trucks, straps, protective blankets. We dismantle bulky furniture, carry it down from upper floors and load it safely. Nothing for you to lift and nothing for you to organise.
Want everything back, or only a few specific pieces? Order your delivery online from your photo inventory. Our team delivers, unloads and can reassemble your furniture. Useful when you are moving in gradually or your plans change along the way.
The contents of a whole home usually include things of real value. Our warehouses are protected accordingly: CCTV around the clock, permanently staffed sites, modern fire suppression and perimeter intrusion detection.
Storing a whole household can run to months or years depending on your situation. There is no minimum or maximum term with YouStock. Change your dates whenever you need, and add or remove items along the way.
At this volume the total value of what you are storing is substantial. Furniture, appliances and personal belongings can all be covered against theft, fire, water damage and natural disaster. Our additional cover means even high-value contents such as antique furniture and artwork can be stored with confidence.

FAQ: large storage units
The contents of a typical one-bedroom flat, including a sofa, a bed, a wardrobe, a dining table and around 20 boxes, generally fits into 40 to 50 sq ft. The exact figure depends on how much furniture you are storing and whether large items can be dismantled. Our online estimator gives you a precise volume in a couple of minutes.
The price depends on how long you are storing for, with better rates on longer stays, where you are, and which services you add such as packing or additional cover. A two-bedroom flat usually needs somewhere in the region of 70 to 90 sq ft. Our quote is all-inclusive: collection from your door, transport, storage in a monitored warehouse and delivery back.
Yes. A three-bedroom house typically needs 120 to 160 sq ft, and a four-bedroom house more again. There is no upper limit on what we can take. For whole-house storage we send a larger team and multiple vans, and it is usually worth booking a call so we can plan the collection properly.
Two ways. The online estimator asks you to list what you are storing room by room and calculates the volume. For larger jobs we also offer a free assessment by phone or video call, and we can visit in person where that is easier. The aim is a price that reflects what you are actually storing, so you are not paying for empty space.
Your storage adjusts. If you need to add more partway through, we increase your space and your rate accordingly. If you take a substantial amount back, we reduce your volume and your monthly cost comes down with it. No penalty and no amendment fee.
Yes, at any time. Order a partial or full delivery online or by phone. Need a few boxes, one particular piece of furniture or your winter things? We deliver only what you ask for and the rest stays in storage. Considerably more practical than self-storage, where you have to travel to the unit yourself.
No. Store for a month for short building work, three months between homes, six months, a year while you are abroad, or several years. You stop whenever you want. For anything over six months, our long-stay rates apply.
Yes. Antique furniture, artwork, pianos, musical instruments, collections, expensive electronics and important documents are all things we handle regularly. We use professional protective materials such as covers, wrap and heavy blankets, and our teams are trained in handling delicate items. For particularly valuable contents we can arrange bespoke additional cover.
